Rajasthan Royals (RR) support staff members revealed backroom discussions while the franchise's former spin allrounder and Haryana cricketer Rahul Tewatia was struggling to time the ball before pulling off a remarkable turnaround for himself during his famous innings in IPL 2020.

Playing against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Sharjah, the darkhorse cricketer got stuck at the crease during the run-chase and was batting on a horrific 14* off 21 despite the asking rate climbing well above Royals' noses with the opposition posting a daunting 223/2 in the first half.

However, just when the Royals camp was regretting sending Tewatia at No.4, the left-hander made amends for himself and his team by blasting a jaw-dropping five sixes in the 18th over against PBKS left-arm pacer Sheldon Cottrell in a tremendous comeback from the jaws of defeat.

Royals Camp Recalls Tewatia's Famous PBKS Assault

After enduring a painstaking first half of his stint in the middle, Tewatia emerged from the ashes like a phoenix and transformed Royals' fortunes as they reached home with three balls remaining.

The left-hander, who was batting 17* off 23 at the start of the Cottrell over, ended up blazing his next 36 runs off just 8 deliveries to tilt the scales in the favour of the Sanju Samson-led side.

Members of the Royals camp, including fielding coach and former Royals player Dishant Yagnik revealed the support staff was initially feeling miffed at themselves for sending Tewatia up the order but later rejoiced in his triumph amidst great adversity.

The famous turnaround against the Punjab side gave Tewatia a name for himself among IPL's passionate fans and also resulted in a saying where people deemed every such remarkable comeback as an act of 'doing a Tewatia', something the player has continued even with his new team Gujarat Titans (GT).
