Ben Stokes will likely miss England’s travelling flight to India for a five-match Test series next year. The cricketer might well undergo a knee surgery at the time, for the injury he sustained during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season earlier this year.

Following the season, the all-round maverick refrained himself from bowling during England’s six-Test challenge against Ireland and Australia at home. The cricketer bowled limited spells against Australia in the first two Tests of the 2023 Ashes, but did not bowl a single ball in the subsequent three matches of the series.

Ben Stokes likely to undergo knee surgery

Ben Stokes, who announced his retirement from ODIs last year, was recalled back into the English team for their upcoming title-defence at the 2023 World Cup in India. In a bid to get into the 50-overs groove, the 32-year-old also featured in the preceding four-match ODI series against New Zealand.

It seems like the all-rounder will continue to limit his role as a batsman, as he is yet to fully recover from his knee injury. Recent circulating reports have suggested that Ben Stokes will undergo a surgery on his knee at a time when England’s Test side will make their five-match trip to India in January next year.

The series forms a part of the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, and will launch on January 25 at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Considering the series will conclude on March 11 in Dharamshala, it remains to be seen whether the English Test skipper will make a comeback in some capacity towards the closing stages of the tour.

As of now, Stokes is gearing up for the 2023 World Cup with a home series against New Zealand. England will open their title-defence campaign against the same opponents in the first match of the tournament in Ahmedabad on October 5.
