Ahead of India's Asia Cup 2023 selection this afternoon, wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul shared an Instagram post on Sunday night, showcasing his intense workout at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

Rahul has been in rehabilitation since June after a successful thigh surgery following an injury in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 playing for Lucknow Super Giants. The LSG skipper has been racing against time to prove his fitness for the six-nation Asia Cup 2023, which starts August 30.

In the shared Instagram story, Rahul could be seen jumping over a bouncing ball, which resembles a task from the famous Japanese show 'Takeshi's Castle', which gained popularity in India in the mid-2000s, thanks to rib-tickling commentary from comedian and actor Jaaved Jaffrey.

The story had " Preparing for Takeshi's Castle 😂" as a caption.

The 29-year-old forms a crucial cog in India's white-ball setup, and with the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 nearing, his availability remains a top emphasis for the BCCI. In 54 ODIs, Rahul has scored 1,986 runs with five centuries and 13 fifties.

With Rahul's unavailability, India faces a problem for ODI World Cup, with Shreyas Iyer also administering an injury and Rishabh Pant out after a near-fatal accident last year.

Players such as Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson are front-runners as backup middle order batters, but none have left a lasting impression with their performances. T20I sensation Tilak Varma is also being touted as India's new No.4 in ODIs, but his sample size remains too small.
