India’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 will be unveiled on August 21. Meanwhile, the tournament itself is scheduled to commence on August 30 at Pakistan’s Multan Cricket Stadium.

As per recent reports, Indian captain Rohit Sharma and chairman of BCCI’s selection committee Ajit Agarkar will be attending a press conference to announce team’s squad in New Delhi.

Rohit Sharma and Agarkar to attend press conference

Former all-rounder Ajit Agarkar was recently appointed as chairman of BCCI’s selection committee. One of his first assignments was to oversee India’s squad for their all-format tour of West Indies earlier this month.

The ex-cricketer has now been tasked to form an Indian squad for the much-awaited Asia Cup 2023. The 45-year-old will reportedly make the squad announcement by attending a press conference on August 21, which will also be attended by team’s regular captain Rohit Sharma.

Several reports have indicated that the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 will see the return of white-ball veterans KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer back into the Indian team. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah might also make a cut into India’s first-choice ODI line-up for the first time since recovering from his back injury.

The speedster recently made his return to competitive cricket for India’s ongoing T20I series in Ireland. Bumrah’s return also coincided with a brief captaincy gig, as several senior pros were rested from the tour to balance their workload.

India’s Asia Cup 2023 campaign will launch with a match against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 2. The much-awaited fixture will be hosted by the Pallekele International Stadium in Kandy. Meanwhile, Team India’s Asia Cup 2023 performance will serve as a benchmark for squad selection of the 2023 ODI World Cup, scheduled to be played later this year.
