Mumbai Indians crashed to an 18-run defeat to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to cap their IPL 2024 run on a disappointing note. The outcome ensured that Mumbai Indians finished the IPL 2024 season at the bottom of the 10-team points table, securing just four wins amidst 10 defeats from 14 league games.

After the defeat to LSG on May 17, team captain Hardik Pandya and senior member Rohit Sharma received a stern speech from franchise owner Nita Ambani, who also took this opportunity to extend her best wishes to India’s T20 World Cup 2024 bound players.

Nita Ambani entered the Mumbai Indians dressing room shortly after their defeat to LSG at Wankhede Stadium on May 17. 

Expressing her disappointment over the performance, Ambani also namedropped Rohit Sharma and skipper Hardik Pandya, and claimed that wearing the Mumbai Indians jersey is a huge honor and a privilege.

The 60-year-old also extended her best wishes to India’s T20 World Cup 2024 bound players like Sharma, Hardik, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah.

Serial IPL winners Mumbai Indians have failed to qualify for the playoffs twice in the last three editions of the tournament.

Prior to the IPL 2024 season, the Mumbai Indians management announced Hardik Pandya as new captain, thus replacing five-time winner and decade-long skipper Rohit Sharma in the process.

In search of a sixth IPL trophy and the first since winning the 2020 edition in UAE, Mumbai Indians’ fortunes turned for the worst with the leadership change as they finished at the bottom of the 10-team points table in 2024.
