[Watch] RCB Spinner Swapnil Singh Breaks Down In Tears In A Heart-Wrenching Video
Swapnil Singh mobbed by RCB teammates in IPL 2024 (BCCI)
Swapnil Singh was picked up by Mumbai Indians (MI) during the very first Indian Premier League (IPL) auction back in 2008. However, it took him nearly 17 years to make a mark in the tournament, doing so for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise in the 2024 edition.
After going unsold in the primary IPL 2024 auction, Swapnil was acquired by RCB during the accelerated round.
The 33-year-old ended up playing a vital role in RCB’s late insurgence this season, picking up six wickets in six high-scoring games at an impressive bowling average of 19.
As RCB braces itself for the IPL 2024 playoffs, Swapnil Singh recently recalled his auction day experience and the overwhelming emotions he and his family felt after getting picked up by the franchise.
Swapnil Singh recalls road to IPL 2024
Despite getting picked up by Mumbai Indians in 2008, Swapnil Singh had to wait 16 years to make his IPL debut, doing so for the LSG franchise in 2023. However, the cricketer failed to make any impression in his two wicketless outings for the KL Rahul-led group.
During a recent interview with RCB, Swapnil recalled his experience from the day of IPL 2024 auction where he initially found no takers until the accelerated round.
Playing Ranji Trophy cricket for Uttarakhand at the time, the left-arm spinner expressed his disappointment of going unsold and how he considered taking retirement from the game.
However, Swapnil recalled getting emotional and breaking down in tears when he received a news from his family regarding his sudden ascension to the RCB franchise.
Interestingly, Swapnil Singh did not find a place in RCB’s playing XI in their first eight league games of the IPL 2024 season. His arrival to the playing group also coincided with the starting point of RCB’s six-match winning streak, one which earned them a spot in the IPL 2024 playoffs.
In RCB’s six successive wins in the backend of the league stage, Swapnil himself contributed by picking up six wickets at an impressive average of 19.
He will now be expected to reprise his role for the RCB franchise in their upcoming Eliminator tie against Rajasthan Royals in May 22 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
