Did ECB Take U-Turn on IPL Commitments? PBKS Coach Sanjay Bangar Reacts

Sanjay Bangar, the coach of Punjab Kings (PBKS), has shared insights into the challenges faced by Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) franchises following the departure of English players to participate in the T20 series against Pakistan, just ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024.

English players, including PBKS' Sam Curran ajnd Jonny Bairstow, left the IPL at a crucial stage, resulting in many key players missing important matches.

Jos Buttler, Phil Salt, and Will Jacks are among those who will miss the playoffs for their respective franchises.

After the final league game of the season against Sunrisers Hyderabad, which resulted in a loss for PBKS, coach Sanjay Bangar addressed the issue.

He expressed frustration that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had initially promised their players would be available for the entire IPL season.

However, the ECB called back their players before the IPL playoffs, impacting several franchises.

"When we went to the auction, the ECB had made it clear that all the players will be available. It is just that it so happens that the tournament got slightly extended, I would say, because of multiple reasons. Everybody was in a similar position but we lost those English players" - Bangar stated after Sunday's loss vs SRH.

PBKS lost  their stand-in captain Sam Curran, Jonny Bairstow, and Liam Livingstone, which forced them to play with just one foreign player in their last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Also, Kagiso Rabada had already left for South Africa due to an injury.

Jitesh Sharma took charge for PBKS yesterday, overseeing their innings as they posted a formidable total of 214-5 in 20 overs.

Despite PBKS's strong batting performance, SRH managed to chase down the target in just 19.1 overs.
