Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) stunned defending champions CSK by 27 runs in their final league match of the IPL 2024 season. The outcome extended RCB’s unbeaten streak to six matches and helped them become the fourth and final team to qualify for the playoffs.

The result also sparked a city-wide carnival in Bengaluru among RCB fans, who even blocked roads at one stage to celebrate the team’s sixth successive win and a remarkable finish in the final four.

Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu, who was on commentary duty during the final few stages of RCB’s thrilling win, was seemingly left heartbroken over CSK’s defeat as can be seen by his expressive reactions.

The following day, the cricketer-turned-commentator took a sly dig at RCB fans while he was offering his expert analysis on Star Sports.

Rayudu trolls RCB fans for over-the-top celebration

Former Indian cricketer and CSK legend Ambati Rayudu hilariously trolled RCB fans while offering his expert analysis during SRH’s home game against Punjab Kings on May 19. When he was asked to give his verdict about the impending IPL 2024 playoffs, Rayudu jokingly claimed that RCB has already won this season if the over-the-top celebration from their fans was any indication.

Moreover, he further quipped that CSK should even concede one of their five IPL trophies to RCB on the basis of recent performance. Apart from trolling the fans, Rayudu did praise RCB for coming up trumps in a virtual knockout clash against the defending champions.

The 38-year-old, who lifted the IPL trophy back in 2023 for CSK, implied that if RCB goes on to win this season, it will be counted among the greatest comeback stories in the history of the competition.

RCB, under the leadership of Faf du Plessis, will now face Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on May 22. The winner of the match will subsequently face the loser of the first qualifier on May 24 in Chennai for a spot in the finals.
