After a lot of speculations, Mohammad Rizwan was finally appointed as the white ball captain of the Pakistan side on Sunday. The PCB had other candidates as well for the captaincy choice, but the vote went to Rizwan, who already has prior captaincy experience at franchise level.
He replaced Babar Azam, who stepped down from the post due to the internal tussles with the teammates. Interestingly, their were rumours that Babar was forced to resign from the post of captaincy and as a result, Rizwan was unsure of taking up the captaincy responsibilities.
However, PCB convinced him as the Pakistan white-ball tours of Zimbabwe and Australia are just around the corner, and with the Champions Trophy looming large, the side needs a leader who can take the team forward.
Pakistan will tour Australia for white ball series, and ahead of the tour, a video has surfaced online in which the newly appointed skipper is sweating hard in the nets and is gearing up for the upcoming Australian tour. In the video, Rizwan looks in ominous touch as he prepares for a tough away assignment against the World champions.
Challenges Rizwan will face as Pakistan captain
Taking up the Pakistan captaincy role won't be an easy job for Rizwan. The PCB in recent times have been harsh on their captains and coaches, and Rizwan will have his task cut off.
The Pakistan cricket lacks harmony as there is an internal tussle amongst the players, which was highlighted by Babar Azam. Rizwan's task will be to make sure that everyone is on the same page as Pakistan embark on a new journey.
Also, star player, Babar Azam's form is a big cause of worry for the side. He hasn't delivered in white-ball cricket for a long period of time and Rizwan needs his best player to come back to his old form and deliver the goods for Pakistan cricket.
