In the Big Bash League 2023-24 clash at Bellerive Oval, the Hobart Hurricanes faced off against the Melbourne Stars. The Stars won the toss and opted to bowl, putting the Hurricanes into bat first. However, their innings faced a setback as they were restricted to 155 runs, losing all their wickets.

As Melbourne Stars geared up for their chase, rain played spoilsport, causing a delay in the match. Eventually, the revised target for the Stars was set at 67 runs off 7 overs. The Stars' start was far from ideal, with Sam Harper departing on the first legal ball of the innings, courtesy of a delivery from Meredith. The experienced Marcus Stoinis, joining the captain at the crease, failed to make an impact and was dismissed for a duck in the very first over.

The fourth ball of the Stars' chase saw Meredith striking again, sending Stoinis back to the pavilion. Stoinis attempted a pull shot, but the short delivery into his body resulted in a glove-balloon catch, easily claimed by Wade. The Hurricanes' exceptional start had put them in a commanding position.
