The pain of India's defeat against Australia in the Cricket World Cup 2023 final on November 19 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is still fresh and haunting Indian fans.

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, India's dream of clinching their third Cricket World Cup title came crashing down on November 19 as they faced a defeat at the hands of Australia in the much-anticipated final.

Despite a stellar performance throughout the tournament, the Indian team struggled to adapt to the slower pitch conditions in Ahmedabad, leading to tactical missteps and a disappointing middle-order collapse.

Opening up about the heartbreaking loss, Indian pacer Mohammed Shami expressed the collective sentiment of the nation, saying,

"The whole country was disappointed. We were one hundred percent committed to sustaining the momentum we had built and winning the final. But it cannot be explained where we went wrong at the end. It is a painful feeling."

While India had an impressive winning streak leading up to the final, the team faced challenges in setting a competitive target, managing only 240 runs.

Australia's Travis Head played a pivotal role in the chase, securing his team's sixth World Cup title with a century. Despite the defeat, Virat Kohli was named Player of the Tournament for his outstanding individual contributions.

The World Cup may have ended on a bittersweet note for Mohammed Shami, but his performance throughout the tournament was nothing short of spectacular.

Shami emerged as the leading wicket-taker in seven matches, claiming an impressive 24 wickets at an astonishing average of 10.70 and a strike rate of 12.20. His remarkable bowling display included a career-best figure of 7/57.
