Temba Bavuma Ruled Out Of Second Test Against India, Dean Elgar To Lead In His Final Test

Temba Bavuma, the South African Test skipper has been ruled out of the second and final Test of the two-match Test series that is scheduled to start at Cape Town on 3rd of January 2024. In his absence, Dean Elgar who led the South Africans for the most part of the first Test will captain his nation in his final international game, marking a fitting end to his career.

Bavuma injured his left hamstring on Day 1 itself while trying to stop a drive by Virat Kohli. He did not take any further part in the Test match and Elgar was handed leadership duties despite Aiden Markram being name as vice-captain for the series. The Centurion is his home ground and Elgar made it memorable by stroking a brilliant 185 and leading South Africa to a record win of innings and 32 runs.

Bavuma, on the other hand, has been injury prone-throughout his career, and this latest setback will be quite frustrating for the right-handed batter as he recently recovered fully from the injury he carried in the World Cup 2023.

The seriousness of Bavuma's injury is still not clear but South Africa would be hoping that they do not miss their regular captain and deliver a strong performance in the second Test against Rohit Sharma and his boys who were outplayed completely in the Boxing Day Test match.
