In an ongoing boxing day test match at Super sport Park in Centurion, India found themselves facing an uphill battle against South Africa in the first Test of the two-match series. The Proteas dominated the proceedings on Day 3, with Dean Elgar's magnificent 185 and Marco Jansen's resilient 84*, setting the stage for a challenging chase.

Despite the mounting pressure on the Indian side, veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin showcased his cricketing brilliance. The frustration was palpable as South Africa extended their lead to around 150 runs at that time, with Elgar and Jansen posing significant threats.

However, amidst the challenges, Ashwin's quick thinking and presence of mind came to the fore. In a clever move, he attempted to run out the dangerous Marco Jansen, who was consistently backing up too far at the non-striker's end.

Ashwin issued a subtle warning without uttering a word, displaying a classic 'Mankad' manoeuvre. This strategic move exemplified Ashwin's determination to explore every avenue to bring his team back into contention.

This isn't the first time Ashwin has been involved in a 'Mankad' incident. In 2012, he executed a similar run-out against Sri Lanka's Lahiru Thirimanne, followed by another instance in 2019 when he dismissed Jos Buttler for leaving the crease early during an IPL match.

As the Boxing Day Test unfolded, India fought back admirably after the stellar performances of Elgar and Jansen, bowling out the hosts for 408 runs. The Proteas secured a lead of 163 runs. Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah claimed four crucial wickets.

The spotlight now shifts to India's batters, who find themselves trailing and under immense pressure. The third inning becomes a make-or-break scenario for the visitors.
