Out-of-favour Manish Pandey seems to be making the most of his opportunities in India’s domestic circuit. The cricketer recently starred in Hubli Tigers win at the Maharaja T20 Trophy 2023 final against Mysore Warriors, and was fittingly adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ for his efforts.

Leading Hubli Tigers, Pandey scored an unbeaten 50 from just 23 deliveries, thus provided some much-needed acceleration to the innings on their way to 203-8 from 20 overs. Later in the game, the T20 veteran tactically marshalled his troops as Tigers prevailed in a tense final-over finish by mere eight runs to clinch the title.

Remarkably, Manish Pandey also saved a certain six in the final over with some agile athleticism and presence of mind, which turned out to be vital in Tigers’ narrow tournament-clinching win.

Manish Pandey’s boundary effort wins thriller for Tigers

Mysore Warriors, chasing 204 to claim the Maharaja T20 2023 title, reached 192-6 from 19 overs to bring the equation down to getting 12 runs from the final six balls.

While Warriors struggled to get going in the final over, Jagadeesha Suchith tried breaking the shackles with a straight hit down the ground in his attempt to clear the fence, only to find his astonishing effort go futile owing to Manish Pandey at the boundary ropes.

Pandey leaped above the ground and prevented the ball from going across the boundary in time. While Suchith had successfully completed a single, Hubli Tigers captain and Indian international ended up saving five runs at one go.

Mysore Warriors failed to fathom Manish Pandey’s sensational fielding effort and ended up falling eight runs short of their target.

Apart from the final, Pandey scored crucial runs for Hubli Tigers throughout the Maharaja Trophy 2023 season. Manish Pandey was at the forefront of Gulbarga Mystics title win last season and this time he has reaffirmed his credentials as captain with another  Maharaja trophy to his name.

The 33-year-old once used to be one of the prominent members of the Indian national team before he was dropped in favour of emerging stars. The cricketer played 29 ODIs and 39 T20Is for Team India, and averaged a remarkable 44.31 in the latter of the two formats. Pandey last featured for Team India back in July 2021.
