Onam is a major harvest festival celebrated in the southern Indian state of Kerala. It is one of the most significant and widely observed festivals in Kerala, and it typically falls in the Malayalam calendar month of Chingam, which usually corresponds to August or September in the Gregorian calendar. It is a ten-day festival, with the most important day being the Thiru Onam, which is the second day of the festival. Today, August 29, was the day of Thiru Onam.

Not just from the south, but people from all over India have been extending their wishes on the festival of Onam through the medium of social media. Sanju Samson, who hails from Kerala, is among the cricketers who took to social media to share a picture of Onam celebrations with family. Samson posted a picture with his wife, in which both of them can be seen donning traditional attires.

Onam is celebrated to commemorate the return of the mythical king Mahabali, who was a beloved ruler of Kerala. According to legend, Mahabali was granted a boon of visiting his kingdom once a year, which is celebrated as Onam. The festival is marked by colourful and intricate floral decorations, and people wear traditional attire, with women wearing beautiful sarees and men wearing the dhoti. It's a time when people dress up in their best clothes.

On the work front, Samson has been dropped from the 17-member squad selected for the Asia Cup, which begins on August 30. However, Samson is a travelling reserve in the side and could be drafted into the main side if KL Rahul fails to recover from the injury that has ruled him out of the opening two games. India will open their Asia Cup campaign with a big game against Pakistan on September 2 in Pallekele.
