New Zealand's newest batting sensation, Rachin Ravindra, swept the cricket fraternity off their feet with a majestic maiden Test hundred against South Africa on Day 1 of the Mount Maunganui Test. However, Rachin capitalized on the dream start to convert the ton into a memorable double hundred.

Rachin Ravindra was viewed as the next big thing in New Zealand cricket, waiting to explode when he first made his debut in the Black Caps. The Indian-origin batter finished his maiden ODI World Cup with 565 runs and accordingly earned a Test call-up for the South Africa series.

Ravindra scripts history

On Day 1 of the Mount Maunganui Test, Rachin Ravindra put together a 200-run mammoth partnership with Kane Williamson after the loss of two quick wickets at the start of the day.

While Rachin recorded his maiden Test century, Williamson contributed equally with a ton before Ruan de Swardt removed him on Day 2.

Having said that, Ravindra was determined to convert the dream into something extraordinary. While wickets fell from one end, the young batter didn't let the momentum slip.

Eventually, the Kiwi batter reaped the rewards of his hard work, slammed a scintillating double century in 340 balls, and scripted history for New Zealand. Rachin Ravindra became the only fourth New Zealand batter to turn his maiden Test hundred into a double hundred in the history of the red ball format.

The innings were a testament to Ravindra's skill and temperament, as he displayed a wide array of shots and an unwavering determination to build a substantial innings for his team.
