Ahead of the first Test match against India, England batter Joe Root faced his fellow teammate James Anderson in the nets session and the latter tested the former with quick and troubling deliveries as the duo engaged in an intense battle.

England arrived in India for a tough assignment to challenge the home side in a five-game Test series starting from Thursday. Ahead of the series opener, English players featured in an intense net practice session at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

However, the training session soon turned into a battlefield between Joe Root and James Anderson, the two stalwarts of the England cricket team. Anderson troubled Root with his quick and seaming delivery. He tested Root with all kinds of variation.

At the age of 41, Anderson's run-up and bowling action were as good as they had been during his prime years.

Meanwhile, Joe Root didn't lower his guard as well and tackled every delivery with utmost grit and determination. While Anderson almost bowled him with a full delivery, Root smashed a dashing cover drive that had a boundary written on it.

Regardless, the intense battle was fun to watch for the squad and coaches on the sidelines. Once the battle between Joe Root and James Anderson concluded, wicket-keeper batter Ben Foakes and spinner Rehan Ahmed took some reps to sharpen their hitting skills.

Meanwhile, the England cricket team's managing director, Rob Key, inspected the pitch being prepared for the series-opening game.

Having said that, the English team's high spirits and focus were a welcoming sight for the visitors. The Test series won't be an easy ride for England as conditions are exactly the opposite of what they are used to.

Nonetheless, both teams have had their practice sessions this week. India, as well as England, looked headstrong as they geared up to battle it out in Hyderabad on Thursday.
