The Bengal Cricket team’s first match against Andhra in the Elite Group B fixture resulted in a draw in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2023-24 tournament. However, they made a rollicking comeback against Uttar Pradesh at Green Park in Kanpur on Friday.

The Bengal team’s pacer spit fire on the Kanpur pitch as they bundled out Bengal for just 60 runs in 20.5 overs on day 1 of the match. In a video posted by the BCCI domestic Twitter handle, fast bowlers, namely Ishan Porel, Mohammed Kaif, and Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal, were seen rattling UP’s batting line-up.

The video clip began with Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal rattling Aryan Juyal’s (11) stumps with a beautiful delivery. Ishan Porel then had Priyam Garg (4) chop one onto his stumps. Nitish Rana (11) was the third one to depart as Ishan Porel bowled him with a beautiful delivery that came in after pitching.

Mohammad Shami’s brother, Mohammad Kaif then picked his first wicket in the match by castling Samarth Singh (13) to leave UP in all sorts of trouble at 49 for 5.

Wickets continued to fall as Bengal’s fast bowling trio looked unplayable on a ti. The likes of Akshdeep Nath (7), Karan Sharma (1), and Sameer Rizvi (7) got out on single-digit scores. Samarth Singh was top scorer for UP, managing 13 runs in 41 deliveries.

Mohammed Kaif, who is the brother of Mohammed Shami, made his Ranji Trophy debut in Bengal’s first game against Andhra. He picked up 3 for 62 in the only innings he bowled in that game. On Friday against Uttar Pradesh, Kaif returned with outstanding figures of 4 for 14 in just 5.5 overs.

There couldn’t have been a better start for Mohammed Kaif in his first-class career and his brother M Shami wouldn’t be more proud. Apart from Kaif, the likes of Ishan Porel and Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal bowled equally well, picking 2 and 3 wickets respectively. At the time of writing, Bengal have scored 60 for 3 in the second innings of the Test match.
