In a massive controversial incident during the Boxing Day Test, Indian cricket fans were involved in a heated exchange with Khalistan activists near the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the venue for the fourth match of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The much-awaited clash in Melbourne has been eventful so far, with cricket fans worldwide witnessing an action-packed day at the iconic venue.
After Australian captain Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bat first, the hosts initially struggled against the Indian pacers before Sam Konstas brought them back into the contest with a sensational half-century. The debutant hammered the Indian fast bowlers, including Jasprit Bumrah, to all parts of the ground, scoring 60 runs off just 65 deliveries.
However, amid his blistering knock, an controversial incident that grabbed the limelight was a confrontation between Indian and Khalistani supporters. A renowned Indian journalist posted a clip of the same event on social media platform X (Twitter).
For the unversed, Khalistanis are a group of separatists, who have been vocal, particularly on foreign countries, demanding a separate country for the Indian state Punjab. They have disrespected the Indian Tricolour on multiple occasions, and it was no exception on the Boxing Day.
Their inappropriate gesture triggered the Indian fans, who gave them a befitting reply by waving the Indian flag with pride and screaming 'India, India' in order to rattle the separatist activists. Thus, a tensed situation was created outside the venue, with the cops eventually taking the matter in their hands.
