When it comes to cricket banter, fans don't hold back, and one Indian supporter at the Adelaide Oval decided to take it up a notch during the second Test between India and Australia. Waving a piece of sandpaper in the stands, the fan brought back memories of Australia's infamous ball-tampering scandal from 2018.

However, not everyone saw the humour, as security swiftly removed him from the stadium. The incident happened on Day 3 of the pink-ball Test. Sitting among a sea of Australian supporters, the Indian fan waved a piece of sandpaper and targeted the Aussies' dark past.

The act of an Indian fan waving sandpaper drew reactions from the crowd as some chuckled and others jeered. But the security wasn't amused. They manhandled him out of the ground while he continued to wave the sandpaper-like a badge of honour.

The incident was caught on camera and went viral on social media in no time. Cricket fans across the globe were reminded of the 2018 Sandpapergate scandal", which still haunts Australian cricket.

What Is Sandpapergate Scandal?

Back in 2018, during the third Test against South Africa in Cape Town, Cameron Bancroft was caught red-handed trying to alter the ball's condition with sandpaper. The revelation blew up, implicating then-captain Steve Smith and vice-captain David Warner.

All three players faced heavy punishments—Bancroft got a nine-month suspension, while Smith and Warner were banned for a year each. It was one of cricket's biggest controversies that tarnished Australia's reputation. And clearly, this Indian fan wasn't going to let them live it down.

India Falls Flat in Adelaide

While the sandpaper stunt grabbed headlines, it wasn't the only disappointment for India. The visitors were completely outplayed by Australia as they lost the match by 10 wickets.

After a promising win in the first Test in Perth, India's batting crumbled in Adelaide. Mitchell Starc ran riot with a six-wicket haul, while Travis Head smashed a dominant century before Pat Cummins bagged a fifer to seal the deal for the Aussies.

The loss allowed the home side to level the series at 1-1, which left Indian fans frustrated and looking for answers. With the series now tied, all eyes are on Brisbane, where the third Test commence on December 14. Australia will be riding high on confidence, while India needs to regroup and find their form.
