Chennai Super Kings (CSK) marked the return of their captain MS Dhoni to Chennai with a cinematic welcome that left fans in awe on social media in what was an electrifying display of fanfare and creativity.

The charismatic leader, instrumental in guiding CSK to their fifth Indian Premier League (IPL) victory, was greeted in a manner befitting his legendary status as he arrived in the city on Tuesday to join the preparatory camp for the IPL 2024 season.

IPL 2024: CSK went all out with a movie-style welcome for MS Dhoni

CSK's social media channels were abuzz with a video that showcased the elaborate welcome arranged for Dhoni. In what could easily be mistaken for a scene from a blockbuster movie, the video features a fan moving through a crowd, chanting "Thala" as he makes his way to a figure donned in CSK colours. The twist comes when the figure turns out to be the team's mascot, rather than Dhoni himself.

The video continues with the fan presenting a photo frame to the mascot, who then dramatically breaks the glass to reveal MS Dhoni's portrait. Adding to the theatrics, the mascot draws Dhoni's iconic long hairstyle on the photo, just moments before the real Dhoni makes his grand entrance. Greeted by the mascot with the framed portrait and a bouquet, Dhoni's arrival was further enhanced by the background score of 'Badass' from the film Leo.

Meanwhile, the excitement for Dhoni's return was evident among the fans, who have eagerly awaited his reunion with the team. CSK has already kicked off their training camp at Chepauk since March 2, with key players like Deepak Chahar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Mukesh Choudhary, and Prashant Solanki getting a head start.

Dhoni, who played through a knee injury last season, has shown great determination to make a comeback. Following CSK's win last year, he underwent knee surgery to return stronger for the upcoming season.

Despite speculation about his retirement, the 41-year-old cricket icon confirmed his participation for another season, much to the delight of fans who had poured in large numbers last season to support him.
