Former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam found himself on the receiving end of a defeat against Afghanistan, leaving him emotionally drained. What transpired next, however, showcased the resilience and sportsmanship that defines cricket beyond the boundary ropes.

Afghanistan's wicketkeeper, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, recently revealed a heartwarming incident that unfolded after his team's triumph over Pakistan at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Gurbaz, who played a crucial role in the victory, scoring 65 runs off 53 balls, approached Babar Azam with a humble request for a memento—the captain's bat.

As Gurbaz recalled the incident, he highlighted the emotional turmoil Babar Azam was experiencing. The defeat had weighed heavily on the Pakistani captain, who, despite the disappointment, graciously fulfilled Gurbaz's request.

“That moment I will never forget about Babar. We beat Pakistan, and then I asked for his bat. Once he brought the bat, he was so disappointed, and I can feel as a player. I can feel that, you know, when you lost the game and then this, especially in this kind of situation. He was under so much pressure."

“Trust me, I was trying not to say this in front of the camera, but I want to say that he was about to cry. He was so dejected, and I have never seen any player like that. Everyone was against him. But I salute Babar bhai, he was so strong and he kept going. He never gave up.”

This incident not only showcased the depth of emotions that cricket can evoke but also shed light on the character of Babar Azam as a leader and as a person.

As Babar Azam steps down as the captain across all three formats, his journey continues, now under the leadership of Shan Masood in the upcoming Test series against Australia.
