Ever since Pakistan were knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2024 without reaching the Super 8 stage of the ongoing edition, there have been plenty of discussions around whether Babar Azam, the man who returned to captaincy just before the showpiece event, should continue his job or not.

Usman Khawaja, Australia’s prolific red-ball opener who was born in Pakistan’s Islamabad, gave his verdict on this ‘talk-of-the-town’ topic, and of course, he put facts to justify his opinion.

In a recent event that took place in Melbourne, Khawaja asked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to keep faith in Babar if he wanted to do the same. At the same time, the southpaw also added that whenever the Men in Green are in action, the expectations are sky-high, making the job tough for Babar to get the desired results.

"It's Babar Azam's decision to captain; if he can, he should. Pakistan cricket team has a lot of talent. Expectations are high in Pakistan, the game is tough and only one team can win," Khawaja said, as quoted by cricketpakistan.com.pk.

In addition, Khawaja also highlighted that the PCB keeps changing the staff and players lately, and they desperately need stability in their unit in order to get back to their good-old best.

“When I look from the outside, changes are constant in the Pakistan cricket. Selection committee, staff and players keep changing. Such a situation is difficult because stability is very important. When there is no stability, it is difficult for players to perform. Pakistan cricket team never sees stability,” Khawaja added.

Pakistan will next play a two-match Test series at home, which will take place in August against Bangladesh.
