On the cricketing front, Virat Kohli experienced a match of highs and lows against New Zealand. In the first Test at Chinnaswamy Stadium, India lost to New Zealand by eight wickets, putting them 1-0 down in the series. This marked a historic moment, as it was the first time in 36 years that a New Zealand team had defeated India in a Test match on Indian soil. 

During the first innings, Kohli had a tough outing; he was dismissed for a duck after facing only nine balls. Pacer William O'Rourke caught him off guard with a short-length delivery, leading to an easy catch for Phillips at leg gully.

In the second innings, Kohli scored 70 off 102 balls. He also scored over 9,000 runs in Test cricket, achieving this milestone in just 197 innings with a batting average of over 48. With this accomplishment, he joined the elite company of legends Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Sunil Gavaskar.
