India are all set to take on England in a five-match Test series, starting June 20 at Headingley in Leeds. However, this series will feel very different for fans, as star players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and R Ashwin won’t be a part of it.
All three have recently announced their retirement from Test cricket, making way for a new era in Indian cricket. Shubman Gill has now been named the new Test captain, while Rishabh Pant takes over as the vice-captain.
Virat Kohli Unlikely To Show Up For IND vs ENG Test Matches
With the series happening in England and Virat Kohli currently living in London with his wife Anushka Sharma and their kids, many fans were wondering if he might be seen at the stadium cheering on Team India.
However, according to a report by The Telegraph as quoted by NDTV, Kohli is unlikely to attend any of the matches. Even though he lives nearby, he has been keeping a low profile and distancing himself from the cricket scene since his retirement. He even skipped the recent World Test Championship Final and the “World Cricket Connects” event hosted by the MCC, showing his intent to stay away from the spotlight for now.
Kohli and Anushka are believed to be staying in Notting Hill, a peaceful area in London where they have quietly built a life away from public attention.
Despite not being present at the stadiums, Virat recently caught up with some of the Indian players. As per a video report by RevSportz, just days before the series began, he invited Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, Mohammed Siraj, and a few others to his home in London. They spent a couple of hours together, chatting and bonding before the start of the series.
This will be Shubman Gill’s first major series as Test captain, having taken over the role from Rohit Sharma following his retirement during IPL 2025.
While Kohli won’t be part of the Test matches, fans won’t have to wait too long to see him back on the field. India are scheduled to play six One Day Internationals (ODIs) later this year, and that’s when Virat Kohli is expected to return to international cricket.
India will travel to Bangladesh in August for a series of three ODIs and three T20Is, with the first match scheduled for August 17 in Dhaka.
