After Virat Kohli retires from the longest format, Team India is set to face new challenges on English soil under Shubman Gill’s captaincy. Stepping into the crucial series, Virat Kohli will be a big miss in Team India’s playing XI.

As Gill and Co. are ready to face England in the first Test, former England great Michael Vaughan said that Kohli’s absence might impact the squad, but his batting won’t be missed.

Vaughan Claims Kohli's Bat Won’t Be Missed In Action

Last month, the cricket world was shocked as Virat Kohli announced his retirement from the longest format. A big move ahead of the crucial England tour turned heads. However, Shubman Gill is ready to lead the side from the front. Being a monumental figure in the lineup, the squad will miss his presence.

Despite being a maestro of the format, Kohli has had a rocky run in Tests in recent years. Even after smashing a ton in the first Test against Australia last year, he ended up scoring 190 runs in 5 Tests in Australia. As per Sports Tak, while speaking to Fox Cricket, former England star Michael Vaughan believes the team might miss Kohli’s presence, but not his batting.

“Kohli is a legend and a culture creator around this Indian team, and what he brought as a captain to the team is still there in terms of the energy and the drive, and the aggression. But he only averaged 33 here in the UK. You don’t massively miss someone that averages 33, but you miss someone that brings so much to the dressing room,” Vaughan said.

Having Faith In The Youngsters

In the absence of some Indian greats like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin, a bunch of young talents are ready to shine under the young captain. As the Test series gets underway, Michael Vaughan has thrown his support behind the youngsters, saying he wouldn’t be surprised if they rise to the occasion and deliver big.

“These players that are going to come in and play for India, they’re seriously good players. Maybe this new generation has been waiting. Maybe they’ve been waiting for this moment. Don’t be surprised that they play really well,” Vaughan added.

Team India is set to face the challenges from Ben Stokes and Co. as the much-anticipated first Test gets ready to bring the classic thrills at Headingley, Leeds.
