The much-awaited Indian team selection for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan is likely to take place today or tomorrow (5th of January or 6th of January) according to sources. close to OneCricket. The squad may be announced late on 5th of January or during afternoon time on 6th of January with coach Rahul Dravid likely to play a big part in team's selection.

The selection of this team will be quite important because it is the last T20I series for India before the T20 World Cup and the players selected in this team, will most likely get the nod for the World Cup in June as well.

Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav have been ruled out of the series due to their respective injuries while Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are likely to make the return. The experienced duo has not played T20Is for India since the 2022 T20 World Cup, but according to the reports, they are keen to play the upcoming World Cup and it is going to be an interesting call for selectors.

There has been a lot of talk about the need of going for ultra aggressive approach in T20Is and India have tried quite a few young players in this format. If selectors decide to continue with youngsters and do not include Rohit and Virat for this series, then Samson might make the cut as Suryakumar Yadav will miss out from the last series.

However, the bowling department is likely to be more or less the same from the Australia series and Jasprit Bumrah might again not feature in T20Is with selectors vary of the importance of keeping Bumrah fit for the all-important T20 World Cup.
