The much-awaited IPL mega auction is set to be conducted next month. Fans' excitement and anticipation reach sky-high as we inch closer to the marquee event. Meanwhile, talking about Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the perennial underachievers face a serious dilemma regarding their retention.

For those unversed, the ten IPL franchises have been asked to submit their final retention list by the 31st of October. However, several factors have apparently confused the Bengaluru-based franchise, with their management not yet taking a call on their potential retentions.

Virat Kohli And Who Else? RCB's Conundrum Explained

According to the Times of India, the Royal Challengers have talismanic Indian batter Virat Kohli as their only retention-worthy player. While Faf du Plessis is all set to be ignored due to his age, Mohammed Siraj's abysmal performance doesn't make his case strong for retention heading into the auction.

Glenn Maxwell, who failed miserably with the bat in the IPL 2024, will likely lose his place and make his way into the mega auction pool. On the other hand, despite performing admirably for the franchise, Rajat Patidar might not be retained for a whopping price, with the franchise considering using an RTM card for him.

Karnataka Government Might Force RCB To Buy Local Players

The report also states that the Karnataka Government has apparently asked RCB to prefer buying local players in the mega auction. In such a scenario, the franchise might consider roping KL Rahul and Devdutt Padikkal into their setup. Both players have previously represented RCB and can strengthen their lineup ahead of the next season. Rahul, in particular, will be targeted by RCB if the Lucknow SuperGiants release him.
