IND vs AUS | 'Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma...': Ex-Indian Cricketer Makes Massive Prediction

Aakash Chopra believes an otherwise low-key India-Australia T20I series carries extensive weightage and context to the rising young career of Rinku Singh and Tilak Varma, who have the opportunity to elevate his status as India's end-overs hitter and cement a spot in the full-strength playing unit.

The popular commentator reckons the Uttar Pradesh left-hander could be in for a bumper series in the lower-middle order as the designated power-hitting cog and should relish the chance to raise his stocks and standing in India's hierarchy.

Given his role entails facing a minimal set of balls towards the fag end of the innings, Rinku's strike rate of 208.33 over five matches only underlines the cricketer's talent and promise and gives his claim of a regular spot immense strength and prowess.

"Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma - important players. It's a massive series for Rinku Singh, as was the previous one and the one before that because he has been consistently doing well. He scores runs while batting down the order," Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Chopra also urged Varma to raise his game as the talented middle-order left-hander who can bowl off-spin and provide great utility to the side if he progresses and flourishes from here. Varma had an encouraging debut series in the Caribbean but faltered in Dublin. The 21-year-old has now played 10 T20Is for India with an average of 38.50 and strike-rate of 142.59.

"Tilak Varma also did well when he was given the job. The Ireland series was not good, if it had been good, he might have been in the World Cup's scheme of things. He might have even played in the final. You would have got a left-handed batter who could have bowled off-spin," he added.
