Virat Kohli nearing big milestones in IPL [Source: @IPL/X.com]
Royal Challengers Bengaluru star batsman Virat Kohli is on the cusp of creating IPL history in their last league phase match against Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. He is just one half-century away from becoming the player with the most fifties in IPL history.
Although RCB has already qualified for the playoffs, the next encounter against LSG would be significant to ensure that they end up in the top 2. Kohli, who retired from the Test format earlier this month, has been a consistent performer for his team.
Moreover, he needs one more half-century to script a personal record and add another feather to his golden cap.
Virat Kohli Nearing Mega IPL Records
RCB’s superstar, Virat Kohli, who has been in excellent form this season, is just one half-century away from becoming the player with the most fifties in IPL history. He currently has 62 fifties in the tournament, the same as Australian opener David Warner.
If Kohli scores 50 or more runs against LSG, he will overtake Warner and hold the record for the most half-centuries in IPL.
Players with the most IPL fifties
- Virat Kohli – 62
- David Warner – 62
- Shikhar Dhawan – 51
- Rohit Sharma – 46
- KL Rahul – 40
- AB de Villiers – 40
Apart from this, the former captain also has a golden chance to break another massive record. He currently has 8,976 runs for RCB in total, this includes 8,552 runs in 256 IPL matches and 424 runs in 14 Champions League T20 matches.
If he scores just 24 more runs, he will become the first-ever player to score 9,000 runs for a single IPL franchise, which is indeed a huge achievement. Of course, considering the stakes of a playoff position and personal achievements, the spotlight will once again be on Kohli when he takes the field.
Where Is Kohli In The Orange Cap Race?
Virat Kohli continued his strong IPL 2025 form with a blazing 43 off 25 balls against SRH last week, but it wasn’t enough to push him into the top five of the Orange Cap standings.
With 548 runs from 12 innings, Kohli sits at No. 6, just behind Yashasvi Jaiswal and Mitchell Marsh, whose teams are already out of the playoffs. Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudharsan (679) and Shubman Gill (649) lead the table, and both will be playing in the playoffs as well.
