How England will get affected [Source: @ShamimSports/x.com]
In a shocking turn of events, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Sir Keir Starmer released new immigration laws which will affect millions of people aspiring to come, stay or work in UK. He stated that the measures taken by his government will make the immigration system - controlled, selective and fair.
Not only the people coming in UK for work or study purpose will be affected, but the new system will also hamper the England cricket team and its selection process.
What is the new UK immigration rule?
Before the new law, anyone who was working in the United Kingdom or was planning to work had the license to apply for right to stay indefinitely in five years time. However, now, the rules have become stricter and immigrants will typically have 10 years before they can apply for the citizenship.
Getting UK visas will become difficult and only the selective few who can contribute to the UK economy will get the visa.
How England team gets affected by it?
England cricket team usually deploys players who are predominantly not born in UK, but have migrated from other countries when they were small. UK visas are used by elite athletes to play professional cricket in England and thus secure a passage to the England national team.
Now, with the rule getting stricter, cricketers will find it difficult to secure a visa to make a cricketing career in UK. Many current and former England players have either migrated from their birth place, or their grandfather or father have come to UK for work, which allows them to become a British Citizen. In the past, several such players have helped England win the World Cups.
However, under the new regime, the England cricket may find it tough to attract quality players from abroad and will need to look at local talents, thus affecting their game.
