TNPL 2022 Final | LKK and CSG share honours as rain plays spoilsport

Lyca Kovai Kings and Chepauk Super Gillies were declared the joint winners of the 2022 edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League after the summit clash was marred by bad weather on the final night on Sunday, July 31.

As it happened..

The competition, which kicked off with a thrilling Super Over encounter, couldn't get a befitting finish, thanks to the rain gods.

The match had a delayed start and was reduced to 17-overs-per-side, thanks to the continuous outpour in Coimbatore.

After being put in to bat first, LKK posted 138 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the allocated 17 overs. The last match's half-centurion, Sai Sudharsan, continued his sublime form with the bat as he smashed 65 runs off 42 deliveries to keep the scoreboard ticking for Kovai Kings.

The Southpaw knocked eight boundaries and one maximum during his sturdy stay on the crease. His magnificent knock was perhaps the lone bright spot in an otherwise underwhelming inning.

Till the 20-year-old was there in the middle, it looked like the Kovai Kings would breach the 150-run mark easily.

However, the three-time champions quickly pulled things back in their favour as they restricted the opposition to 138/9 at the end of the first inning.

Apart from Sai Sudharsan, only Sridhar Raju (27) and skipper Shahrukh Khan (22) could score in two digits for LKK.

Sandeep Warrier starred with the ball for CSG as he returned with his career-best figures of 4/29 off four overs. It was just another day at the office for R Sai Kishore as he claimed three wickets in his marvellous four-over spell.

Chepauk Super Gillies, in reply, got off to a terrible start, losing two early wickets and managing just 14 runs in four overs before rain intervened in the game.

The play couldn't resume further due to continuous drizzle, and after a long wait, the match was called off, with both Chepauk Super Gillies and Lyca Kovai Kings sharing the Trophy.

Brief Scores:

Lyca Kovai Kings: 138/9 (17 Overs)

Sai Sudharsan 65 (42), Ganga Sridhar Raju 27 (17); Sandeep Warrier 4-29 (4), R Sai Kishore 3-26 (4)
