The 28-year-old will lead the club in the upcoming Royal London one-day Cup and the remaining rounds of the County Championship.

The development comes after Steven Patterson relinquished leadership duties with immediate effect earlier this week.

Tattersall's ascension to captaincy on Sunday capped off a remarkable turn of fortunes for the wicketkeeper, who made his first CC appearance of this season as late as July 11.

The 28-year-old made the most of that opportunity as he creamed a brilliant 1st innings ton.

Speaking on his appointment, Tattersall said:

"Playing for Yorkshire in itself is a massive thing for me, so to be captaining them is an unbelievable privilege. I'm so proud to have been asked. It's a little bit of a surprise, but Patto mentioned that he was stepping down after the last Championship game. He's done a great job with it over the last three-and-a-half-years. He's taken us forward and has been brilliant in helping everyone out."

Tattersall has featured in 101 games (across formats) for Yorkshire and has scored 2650 runs besides claiming 133 catches and affecting 18 stumpings.

''It's going to be a good challenge'' - Tattersall after earning Yorkshire leadership duties

Having led various sides at the junior level, most notably the England U19s, Tattersall has enough experience of captaincy and it is something that has always interested him.

"Captaincy is always something that's interested me. I've done a lot before, at junior level, with the England Under-19s and at second-team level. I also did a warm-up game with the first team against Durham Uni last year," he said.

And, he is already relishing the challenge that lies ahead of him.

"It's going to be a good challenge. We need to rally the troops for the last four games in the Championship, and this one-day competition is going to be exciting."

Tattersall's maiden assignment will be the upcoming one-day tournament, which kicks off from August 02, where Yorkshire will open their campaign against Northamptonshire.
