India defeated South Africa 3-1 in a challenging five-match T20I series. The last match of the T20I leg concluded on Friday, December 19, with India sealing the game by a margin of 30 runs. Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya’s brilliance with the bat and Varun Chakravarth’s patience with the ball allowed India to seal the win.
The emerging batter Tilak Varma was one of the most consistent players of the series and that won him the Impact Player of the Series Award, which was presented by team India’s training assistant Raghavendra Dwivedi, fondly known as Raghu.
"Shukriya, Raghu bhai, Ram-Ram. Yeh shayad doosri baar hai jab mujhe Raghu bhai se padak (medal) mil raha hai. Unke jaise khaas vyakti se yeh padak prapt karna bahut accha laga. Kehne ke liye zyada kuch nahi hai. Jaisa ki Gautam sir ne kaha, is series mein hamara parikshan (test) kiya gaya tha, lekin jis tarah se sab ek saath aaye aur dabaav (pressure) mein perform kiya, woh dekhna bahut accha tha. Mujhe lagta hai ki aagami (upcoming) New Zealand series aur T20 World Cup mein bhi hamara parikshan kiya jayega. Humein usi attitude ke saath aage badhna chahiye. Shukriya!" Tilak said in the video posted by Team India’s official Instagram account.
Tilak Varma’s consistency helped India win the series 3-0
The Hyderabad-born cricketer continued his fine form in the series, scoring 187 runs in four innings at an average of 62.33 and a strike rate of 131.69. His performance also included two fifties and the highest score of 73.
His consistency and versatility proved very handy for India in this series. He showed he could rebuild an innings when India had fallen to 48/3 in the first match and he also proved that he could bat at a much higher tempo with his 42-ball 73 and build a solid partnership with Hardik Pandya in the last match of the series.
