India finished their list of fixtures in the 2025 calendar year with a comfortable win over the visiting South Africa in the fifth T20I to seal the five-match series with a 3-1 margin, as they continue to prepare for the T20 World Cup at home.

However, one cause of concern for the Men in Blue — not just in the SA series, but throughout the year was captain Suryakumar Yadav's form.

The Indian skipper only managed to score 34 runs in 4 innings of the T20I series against South Africa and ended the year with an underwhelming strike rate of 123.16 and without a fifty to his name.

Here's what he had to say about his poor recent form.

Suryakumar Yadav admits to his struggles with the bat

Speaking to Murali Kartik during the post-series presentation after defeating the Proteas, the India captain did not shy away from his responsibility and a vital cog of the Indian team, considering a T20 mega event is set to be played at home in just over a month.

However, as he reflected on his run of form, the batter also showed self-confidence in his ability to bounce back at the right time and win India games again.

"Maybe the only thing we couldn’t quite manage was finding Surya the batter, I think he went missing somewhere! (smiles) But he’ll be back stronger," he said

Speaking on the team's performances throughout the four matches of the SA series, the skipper looked happy about players stepping up on different occasions, despite him not being able to lead from the front.

"As a team, I’m really happy. Whenever we were in trouble, someone always put their hand up and pulled us through. As captain, that’s very satisfying with the way this series went for us," he further noted.

The explosive Indian batter finishes 2025 with 218 T20I runs in 21 matches, averaging just 13.62 at a strike rate of 123.16. His best score of 47*(37) came against Pakistan during the group phase of the Asia Cup in Dubai.

Up next, India will face New Zealand in three ODIs and five T20Is, starting from January 11 in Vadodara.
