'This Is Not PSL…': Ex Skipper Slams Babar Azam After Defeat To England In Pre-T20 WC Series

Pakistan crashed to a 23-run defeat against England at Birmingham to go 0-1 down in their four-match series. The ‘Men in Green’ also coped a shock defeat to Ireland at Dublin earlier this month before bouncing back to win their away series by a 2-1 margin.

Back in April, Babar Azam and co. failed to defeat New Zealand at home as they secured a 2-2 verdict by winning the decider at Lahore.

Visibly distraught with an interminable string of defeats, former skipper Shoaib Malik launched a scathing attack on the current Pakistan team management for tinkering with the batting order prior to the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Shoaib Malik asks Babar Azam to ‘utilize his options’

Shortly after Pakistan’s defeat to England in the second T20I of their four-match series, former ‘Men in Green’ captain Shoaib Malik urged the active team management to not tinker with the batting order.

Launching a scathing attack, he added that these matches constitute Pakistan’s prelude to next week’s 2024 T20 World Cup and the management should not be treating them like PSL fixtures.

Shoaib Malik advised captain Babar Azam to ‘utilize his options wisely’, and also listed his own choice of batting order going into the tournament. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the ex-Pakistan skipper wrote:

Pakistan will now face England in the third T20I of their four-match series on May 28 at Cardiff’s Sophia Gardens. The two teams will subsequently collide on May 30 in London to draw curtains on their pre-T20 World Cup 2024 set of matches.

Pakistan’s World Cup campaign will commence with a Group A match against USA in Texas on June 6. They are also lined up to face India, Canada and Ireland up until June 16 before the Super 8s.
