The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Friday, January 12, announced the Indian squad for the first two matches of the five-match Test series at home against England.

Rohit Sharma remains in charge, with KS Bharat and Dhruv Jurel chosen as wicketkeepers alongside KL Rahul, while Ishan Kishan faces exclusion following reported disciplinary actions by the BCCI.

The first match of the five-match Test series is scheduled to be played in Hyderabad on January 25. The second Test of the series is set to start on February 2 at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.  

As the Test series approaches, off-field controversies involving Rohit Sharma and his IPL team, Mumbai Indians, have surfaced, hinting at a potential discord between the Mumbai batter and the franchise.

Mumbai Indians uploaded a picture featuring the complete squad for the first two Test matches, but Rohit Sharma was notably absent from the image. They gave the spotlight to KL, Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, and Shreyas Iyer instead.

Regarding MI, the five-time champions replaced Rohit Sharma as skipper, naming Hardik Pandya as his successor ahead of the IPL 2024. However, Sharma continues to lead India and will likely feature in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the United States.
