The IPL 2025 season might well become a training ground for India’s Test team for its upcoming five-match tour of England later this year. While the IPL 2025 season is set to be played between March and the final week of May, the Indian team will subsequently get together to travel to England to launch its 2025-27 WTC campaign.
As per reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently devising a plan to keep IPL 2025-bound Indian players Test ready for the series in England.
BCCI aiming to stem India’s lacklustre Test form
The BCCI is devising a strategy which can ensure that Indian players can remain in touch with Test cricket, a red-ball format, during the white-ball IPL 2025 season. As per a report from Cricbuzz, the strategy in question will possibly include players participating in occasion red-ball practice sessions.
Following India’s string of defeats in Test cricket, one can assume that the BCCI is aiming to revive India’s red-ball form, without jeopardizing the schedule of the IPL 2025 season.
While the IPL 2025 season is scheduled to be played between March 22 and May 25, India’s five-match Test tour of England will commence from June 20 onwards with the opening match at the Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds.
Some of India’s premier Test players, who are also scheduled to take part in IPL 2025 for their respective franchise are Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami as well as national captain Rohit Sharma.
Under the leadership of Sharma, the Indian team recently lost its home series to New Zealand by a 0-3 margin. Moreover, a travelling Indian group also fell to a crushing 1-3 defeat in Australia, which subsequently costed them the ‘Border-Gavaskar’ title as well as a place in the 2023-25 WTC final.
