UP Warriorz, inspired by the all-round brilliance of Sophie Ecclestone, stunned defending champions RCB in a historic Super Over during match nine of the WPL 2025 season at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Ecclestone’s thrilling exhibition also rendered Ellyse Perry’s scintillating 90* in vain.

Here’s the timeline of how Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs UP Warriorz panned out in Bengaluru:

Danni Wyatt-Hodge Bludgeons Quick 50 With Perry

UP Warriorz captain Deepti Sharma (1-42) struck big in her opening spell by knocking over her RCB counterpart Smriti Mandhana for just six early in the game. Mandhana’s opening partner Danni Wyatt-Hodge resurrected the RCB innings by crafting a swift 94-run partnership for the second wicket with number three batter Ellyse Perry.

Wyatt composed 57 runs from 41 balls with four elegant boundaries and three sixes to take her team past the 100-run mark in less than 13 overs. The well-set opener was eventually dismissed by Tahlia McGrath (1-30) after she miscued one towards Shweta Sehrawat at backward point.

Ellyse Perry Survives Late Runouts To Muscle 56-Ball 90*

Ellyse Perry at number three muscled 90 unbeaten runs from just 56 balls to catapult RCB to a monumental 180-6 by the completion of their innings. Following the dismissal of fellow half-centurion Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Perry took lone charge amidst tumbling wickets and runouts to bat out till 20 overs.

The legendary Australian cricketer clattered nine boundaries and three sixes in her whirlwind knock to overcome the early exit of blistering wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh to Chinelle Henry (1-34) in the slog overs.

Renuka Singh, Sneh Rana Jolt UP Warriorz Top-Order

Chasing 181, UP Warriorz Women's team started off confidently with a 30-run opening partnership in just 2.4 overs between Kiran Navgire and Dinesh Vrinda. After Navgire raced to 24 runs from 11 deliveries, Renuka Singh (2-36) cleaned her up to get the much-needed breakthrough for the RCB.

The defending champions seized their newfound momentum, with Renuka also getting rid of Vrinda, before Sneh Rana toppled Tahlia McGrath and Deepti Sharma as the Warriorz slipped from 30-0 to 72-4 in eight overs. Grace Harris also made her way back to the dugout for just eight at 93-5 in 10.5 overs courtesy of Kim Garth.

Ecclestone’s Six-Fest Enforces Super Over To Negate RCB Advantage

Shweta Sehrawat injected life back into the UP Warriorz chase with a crucial 25-ball 31 in the backend of the innings. However, Sehrawat’s dismissal to Ellyse Perry (1-10), coupled with Uma Chetry’s downfall to Sneh Rana (3-27) in quick succession tilted the tide back in RCB’s favour.

At 123-7, soon to be 134-8 following the cheap exit of Chinelle Henry to Kim Garth (2-40), Sophie Ecclestone bludgeoned four huge sixes and a boundary in her thunderous 19-ball cameo of 33 to take Warriorz to the brink of overhauling RCB’s total. However, Ecclestone’s runout orchestrated by Richa Ghosh ensured the match ended in a thrilling tie off the final over.

Sophie Ecclestone Excel Again As UP Warriorz Clinch Super Over

After enforcing a thrilling tie, Sophie Ecclestone also bowled a tight over, restricting belligerent RCB openers Richa Ghosh and Smriti Mandhana to just four runs in a chase of nine as UP Warriorz won the first-ever Super Over contest in WPL history.

The outcome marked the second win of the WPL 2025 season for the UP Warriorz as they jumped to number three on the five-team points table.
