The forthcoming India-Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 clash has sparked a fresh controversy as Aishanya Dwivedi, the widow of Shubham Dwivedi, who was killed in the April Pahalgam terror attack, called on fans to boycott the match.

The Pahalgam attack, carried out on April 22 by Pakistan-based terrorists, killed 26 people, mostly tourists. The terrorists targeted victims based on their religious identity.

India responded with air strikes on May 7, targeting nine terrorist hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, which led to a brief military confrontation until a ceasefire was reached on May 10.

Aishanya Dwivedi Questions Indian Cricketers' Patriotism

Speaking to ANI, the Pahalgam attack victim Shubham Dwivedi’s wife, Aishanya, urged people not to attend the upcoming India-Pakistan game or even watch it on TV.

"I cannot understand this. I urge people to boycott this. Do not go to watch this and do not switch on your TV for this," Aishanya said.

She expressed anger at the BCCI for agreeing to play Pakistan, saying it shows no sentiment towards the families of the victims. She also questioned the cricketers’ intent and slammed them for not siding with their country.

"What are our cricketers doing? It is said that cricketers are nationalists. It is viewed as our national game. Except for 1-2 cricket players, nobody stepped forward to say that we should boycott the match against Pakistan. BCCI cannot make them play at gunpoint. They should take a stand for their country. But they are not doing it," she added.

Aishanya went on to question the sponsors and broadcasters, asking whether the revenue from the match would be used to support terrorism.

"I would like to ask the sponsors and broadcasters if their nationality for those 26 families is finished? What will the revenue from the match be used for? Pakistan will use this just for terrorism. That is a terrorist nation. You will provide them revenue and prepare them to attack us once again."

India Unlikely To Boycott Asia Cup Game Vs Pakistan

That being said, apart from terrorist attack victims, Indian fans also raised their voices on social media, urging BCCI to boycott the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 game against Pakistan.

However, BCCI representatives have time and again clarified that India cannot withdraw from the event after receiving clearance from the central government.

As for players, they’re contractually employed by BCCI, meaning the board’s call is final and they are bound to comply with it.
