Amid the ongoing tussle between Bangladesh and India over the T20 World Cup 2026 venue-shift controversy, Mustafizur Rahman, who has been at the centre of the issue, has registered for the Pakistan Super League 2026 edition.
Following Mustafizur Rahman’s registration for the PSL auction, several other Bangladesh players have reportedly followed the pace veteran’s footsteps to take part in Pakistan’s premier domestic league.
Why did Mustafizur Rahman register for PSL 2026?
Notably, Mustafizur’s decision to register for the PSL came after his exit from Kolkata Knight Riders, which was forced by the BCCI in the wake of rising anti-Muslim sentiments in India.
While the development sparked widespread debate across various quarters, serious questions were also raised over player safety. As a result, Bangladesh decided to move their T20 World Cup matches away from Indian venues for the tournament scheduled to begin in February.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board also submitted a formal letter requesting the venue shift. However, as per current reports, discussions between the BCB and the ICC are still ongoing.
Shakib al Hasan, Taskin Ahmed follow Mustafizur's footsteps
Amid this backdrop, the PSL community has welcomed Mustafizur Rahman’s registration, as Pakistani media later confirmed that he is among 10 Bangladeshi players who have completed the registration process for the league.
According to a report from bdcrictime, apart from Mustafizur, Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed, star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, spinner Rishad Hossain, and Tanzid Hasan have also registered their names for PSL 2026.
For the unaware, all the players mentioned above, except Shakib Al Hasan, will be playing in the PSL for the first time if they are picked by franchises. Shakib is the only one among them with prior PSL experience, having previously represented Lahore Qalandars in 2025, who went on to lift the title in that edition.
Bangladesh players free to play PSL 2026 with NOCs?
The Bangladesh Cricket Board allows its players to receive two No Objection Certificates (NOCs) per year to participate in overseas leagues. With players like Rishad Hossain already featuring in the Big Bash League, participation in the Pakistan Super League would be another feather on the hat for the reported players.
Notably, the PSL is set to become an eight-team tournament from 2026, marking a major expansion with new team owners and franchises entering the league.
This expansion will result in a high-stakes auction, featuring several overseas players alongside experienced Bangladeshi veterans and emerging talents eager to be part of the upcoming edition.
