In what could be a big blow to England, pacer Chris Woakes' participation for England's opening game against Afghanistan is in doubt after he was said to suffering from stiffness in his quad.

The news comes after England's premier pacer Reece Topley was recently ruled out due to an ankle injury, and now, with this, the options seems to be diminishing. Woakes has been in some form for the Three Lions during their tour to Pakistan and Australia where he was instrumental to help his side win the series.

His fitness issues has caused a lot of stress to management in recent times, previously with his left knee for which he underwent a knee surgery. Fortunately, he recovered in time to take the flight to Australia which eased a lot for concerns for the side.

What Jos Buttler said about Woakes

English skipper Jos Buttler mentioned that they would not want to rush him into the side if he isn't well but as of now, he looks fit. Woakes also underwent a fitness test on Friday for which he looked in good shape.

"He [Woakes] is not someone you'd want to take a risk on. But I think he's feeling good,"  "He'll take full part in training today and hopefully pulls up well. He's obviously a key player for us."

England's game against Afghanistan will be played on 22nd October at Perth which is considered to be little more pace friendly.
