Chris Woakes missed a major chuck of England’s home season this year owing to his run with injuries. The cricketer is currently in Pakistan for his side’s seven-match T20I series, which serves as a testing ground ahead of this month’s T20 World Cup in Australia.

England’s ongoing series marks their first trip to Pakistan since 2005. Woakes recently acknowledged the significance of the tour and claimed it as a privilege for him to be here. The dynamic all-rounder also praised the Pakistani fans, and described them as passionate followers of the game.

The 33-year-old recently interacted with Pakistan Cricket. Ahead of the series-deciding seventh T20I, the cricketer said that it was a privilege for him to represent England in their first trip to Pakistan in nearly 17 years.

He added that he grew up watching many matches in Pakistan played by the English cricket team, particularly from their previous tour in 2005. He also praised the Pakistani fans for the passion towards the sport and expressed his excitement of being among them for national duties. He said:

“It’s a privilege to be back in Pakistan, I’ve never toured here before in my career. I think 2005 was the last time England team was here, I remember watching many games when I was growing up. Pakistanis, you know, are so passionate about their cricket.”
