Not long ago, the Big Bash League used to rank second on the list of domestic T20 leagues in popularity. However, with the emergence of cash-rich SA20 and the International League T20, many marquee players will likely turn their back on BBL soon. In such a scenario, the authorities are looking for ways to keep those players sticking to the BBL.

Meanwhile, veteran Australian batter Chris Lynn has come up with a solution to help BBL stay relevant in its competition with the other evolving T20 tournaments. As the swashbuckling opener put it, BBL needs to increase its salary cap and lure the players into fulfilling this objective.

Here's what Lynn suggested

"It (the salary cap) definitely has to double, in my eyes, if the Big Bash are to compete with the likes of the Emirates league and the South African league. Put yourself in someone like Andre Russell’s shoes, who can go to the Emirates or go to South Africa and different leagues, with less tax in certain countries."

Lynn, the highest run-getter in BBL history, will head to Abu Dhabi next month to prepare for the Abu Dhabi T10 league, where he will captain Team Abu Dhabi as an icon player.

On his return to Australia, the 32-year-old will represent Adelaide Strikers in the BBL 12. However, he will miss the competition's finals series, should the Strikers qualify, when he switches to the new T20 league in the United Arab Emirates in January. The move was approved by Cricket Australia.
