It was a tight contest in the Super 12 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, where Sri Lanka triumphed in one of the most gripping encounters while passing the Dutch hurdle by just 16 runs.
Kusal Mendis' 79 off 44 deliveries and spirited bowling performance from the Lankan bowlers, with Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana grabbing three and two wickets, respectively, to counter the Netherlands' batter.
To commend the efforts of his side, skipper Dasun Shanaka mentioned that he had full belief in his side to command the number one position, however, the loss against Namibia disrupted their plans. Furthermore, he stated that his bowlers were magnificent in today's game.
"We knew we can be the no.1 in this group but was unfortunate to lose the first one. I knew it was a two-paced wicket, and credits to the boys for doing well, specially the bowling unit. Lahiru, Wanindu, Maheesh did well. In the first half, we controlled the rate well, and therefore we are able to win this game. Thank you."
With this win, Sri Lanka have cemented their place in the Super 12 while also topping their group. As a result, Shanaka-led side will most probably move to Group B, which features Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and South Africa.
