England's premier pacer Reece Topley was ruled out of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 owing to an ankle injury he sustained after landing awkwardly on boundary advertising cushion during a practice drill.

Topley's ligament injury on left ankle was serious enough to give the English management some real headache regarding his replacement for mega-event and the size of the boundary sponge.

The English players looked infuriated especially all-rounder Ben Stokes, who went on call the size of the cushions which is approximately 20 cms, as stupid.

What Stokes said about Boundary Cushions

"It's stupid, It's taken one of our players to be ruled out of the World Cup [to make people notice]."

According to him because of the space advertisers want to get in, they are all jeopardising player safety.

"I'm pretty sure it's something they can look at but everybody [advertisers] want to get their names on somewhere.

"But you look at player safety and the fact he's stood on it and it's ruptured ligaments and now he's out of the World Cup - it should be looked at. [But] I'm devastated for him."

He also remarked that Topley would have been their first choice players for this World Cup, which now has hampered their plans.

"We are all just absolutely gutted for him that he's missed out on this World Cup because he would have been one of the first names on the team sheet."

England will start their World Cup campaign against Afghanistan on 22nd October at Perth.
