The first Test match between India and Bangladesh is just five days away. The two teams will lock horns at the famous M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Ahead of the curtain-raiser tie, a significant development has taken place in Chennai, as reports suggests that the curators will use 'Red Soil' to prepare the pitch.

The surface at the Chepauk Stadium is known for its slow nature and assisting the spinners. The pitch curated at CSK's home ground is usually of black soil that starts to spin from day 1, which is why spinners get heavily rewarded at this venue.

In the latest events, News18 reported that India have asked for a red-soil track as it takes the advantage away from Bangladesh, who are used to playing on black soil tracks.

Difference Between Black Soil And Red Soil Pitch

Black soil pitches have higher clay content, which is why there is low bounce on the track and favour the spinners by assisting them right from day 1. Red soil, on the other hand, would have lesser clay content and would show more bounce on the initial days and crack up as the days go by.

Surfaces made by red-soil help the pacers in the first few days, and as soon as the cracks start to show up, the spinners come into play.

India Begin Preparation As Rohit Sharma Leads the Huddle

On September 13, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma arrived in Chennai ahead of Bangladesh Tests. The two immediately joined the side as India began their preparations for the Bangladesh Tests and held their first practice session, under the guidance of Gautam Gambhir and his coaching staff. It is worth noting that Morne Morkel too joined the side as India's bowling coach.
