Sunil Narine is having a tough time in this season of Major League Cricket (MLC). On Wednesday, June 18, his poor form continued as he failed to take any wickets for the second match in a row and also got out for duck again.

In the match against Washington Freedom, things started badly for Narine’s team, the LA Knight Riders. First, Saurabh Netravalkar dismissed Alex Hales for a duck. Then Mark Adair, playing his first game of the season, bowled out Narine with a perfect delivery that hit the stumps.

It was a nightmare start for the Riders while chasing a big target of 209 runs. Their troubles continued when Jack Edwards also got Unmukt Chand out for a duck.

Sunil Narine Creates an Unwanted Record in T20 Cricket

With this, Sunil Narine recorded the 50th duck of his T20 career, the highest ever in the history of this format. No player before him has been out for zero this many times. Rashid Khan and Alex Hales are next on the list, both with 45 ducks.

Here’s a quick look at the top names:

  • 50 - Sunil Narine (362 innings)
  • 45 - Rashid Khan (284 innings)
  • 45 - Alex Hales (495 innings)
  • 35 - Glenn Maxwell (440 innings)
  • 33 - Rilee Rossouw (363 innings)

This MLC season has been disappointing for him. His team, LA Knight Riders, have now lost three games on the trot. With Andre Fletcher dropped and Rovman Powell brought in, Narine was asked to open the batting but hasn’t delivered. So far in MLC, he has scored just 107 runs from 14 matches with a highest score of 28* and has taken only 10 wickets.

Earlier in the game, LAKR put Washington Freedom on the backfoot, having them reduced 68 to 4. However, Glenn Maxwell changed the odds, hitting his eighth T20 century after scoring just 11 runs off his first 15 balls, and helped Freedom post a massive total of 208 runs. The Knight Riders failed to even stage a fight while coming to chase, taking their season from bad to worse.
