14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi became a hot topic as soon as he was picked by Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction. He first caught attention just for being selected, but he proved himself in a big way once he got a chance to play.

Vaibhav got his break when Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson was injured, and the team brought him in as a replacement. In just his third IPL match, the young batter from Bihar stunned everyone by smashing a century against Gujarat Titans and that too in just 35 balls. This made him the youngest player ever to score a century in IPL history. Notably, he also became the first Indian to smash fastest-century in IPL.

Vaibhav finished the season with 252 runs in 7 innings and an explosive strike rate of 206.55. Thanks to this incredible performance, he was selected for India’s Under-19 team for their tour of England this summer.

Jos Buttler Opens Up About Vaibhav Suryavanshi's Performance

Even former Rajasthan Royals opener Jos Buttler was highly impressed. Speaking on the For The Love of Cricket podcast, Buttler shared how amazed he was watching Vaibhav play against Chennai Super Kings.

"He played an innings against Chennai Super Kings a couple of matches later, I was watching on TV. CSK have seasoned pros like R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, but Suryavanshi went bang! And then he knocked one out to cover, like 'I'm so in control, I'll just take one now'. At that moment, I thought this guy is the best player I've ever seen. I was so blown away," Buttler said.

While praising Vaibhav, it’s worth noting that Jos Buttler himself had a great season. Now playing for Gujarat Titans, he scored 538 runs in 13 innings and helped his team reach the playoffs. However, he couldn’t play in the playoffs because of national duty.

As of now, Vaibhav Suryavanshi continues to grow and gain experience with the India U-19 squad.
