The Los Angeles Knight Riders suffered a crushing defeat against Washington Freedom in the 8th match of Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025, registering one of the lowest team totals in the tournament’s history after Seattle Orcas' 60 against Texas on June 17, 2025.

Chasing a mammoth 209 at the Oakland Coliseum, the Knight Riders were bowled out for just 95 in 16.3 overs, handing Washington a massive 113-run win. This dismal performance has placed LAKR's total among the five lowest team scores in MLC history.

The Knight Riders’ batting lineup crumbled under pressure from Washington Freedom's sharp bowling attack. Openers Alex Hales (0) and Sunil Narine (0) fell cheaply within the first two overs. Unmukt Chand also departed without scoring, while the middle and lower order failed to build any partnerships of substance.

Only Saif Badar (32 off 31) and Jason Holder (23 off 16) showed some resistance. But with Jack Edwards (3-15) and Mitchell Owen (3-18) dismantling the middle order, LAKR’s innings folded well short of the target.

Freedom Dominate In Both Departments

Earlier in the match, Washington Freedom had powered their way to 208/5 in 20 overs, thanks to a blazing century from Glenn Maxwell, who remained unbeaten on 106 off 49 balls, hammering 13 sixes. He was well supported by Obus Pienaar (14*) and Mitchell Owen (32 off 11), who added quick runs at the top.

Bowling figures for LAKR told a grim story, with all bowlers going for over eight runs per over, except Sunil Narine, who returned with 0/28 in four overs. The win sees Washington Freedom continue their strong form in the 2025 season, while LAKR is left to regroup after another batting debacle.
